How to avoid depression
Ways to avoid depression
Sometimes we do not understand
whether we are suffering from depression or are suffering from mental confusion
due to internal anxiety. Depression is called depression and anxiety means
worry, which are very painful and pitiful diseases.
Psychologists say that depression
can happen to anyone. You are sad, your heart does not feel like doing daily
tasks, you are disappointed, you feel anxious, nervous or helpless, then all
these are symptoms of depression. Other cases include loss of appetite, not
sleeping properly, weight loss, difficulty making decisions or loss of
attention and memory. Depression can take a dangerous situation if it lasts for
a long time.
Why is depression so common?
Women are more likely to suffer
from depression than men. Experts at the US National Institute of Mental Health
(NIMH) say, “Women are more likely to suffer from depression than men because
of specific biological, hormonal and social factors that are unique to women.”
One reason for this is that women experience more hormonal fluctuations,
especially during periods, pregnancy and postpartum. After giving birth, women
often experience postpartum depression, which men often fail to understand.
According to medical experts,
most psychological illnesses are caused by hereditary diseases and
environmental conditions. If a family member or relative has suffered from
depression, it is likely that you will too. In addition, financial conditions
and a bad environment around you also cause mental stress. People who suffer
from cancer, heart disease or any other chronic disease also suffer from
depression. Due to depression, people's daily lives are also affected, they
avoid meeting people.
Depression Treatment
There are many ways to stay safe
from depression without medication, including reducing stress, exercising,
doing various breathing exercises, and doing yoga. Therapy and consulting a
psychologist are also effective methods, especially cognitive behavioral
therapy because it changes the angle and style of thinking through conversation.
Psychologists say that if the
nature of depression is not severe and you are not suffering from many
problems, then in such a case, you can try to cure it by taking care of your
diet, getting enough sleep and exercising regularly. However, if the depression
is so severe that it affects your daily routine, then you should seek the help
of a general physician, a specialist in mental illnesses (psychologist,
psychiatrist) or a therapist for an accurate diagnosis. A psychologist usually
treats with psychotherapy, counseling or psychological sessions, while a
psychiatrist makes a drug diagnosis after conducting certain tests.
Pay attention to your current
situation by considering negative thinking as a waste of time, and at the same
time, keep your thoughts from wandering and shake off disturbing thoughts from
your mind. Stay away from things that disturb your mental peace. Many people
resort to TV, games and drugs to avoid worries, but their help cannot keep the
mind calm for a long time. Instead, weaken negative thoughts gradually through
various exercises and try to get rid of disturbing thoughts by staying busy in
the present.
According to a study by
scientists at the World Health Organization, exercising three times a week
reduces the risk of depression by 16 percent, while each additional physical
activity per week further reduces the risk of the disease. A common exercise to
get rid of depression is to sit upright on the floor or chair and cross your
legs. Make sure that you are not leaning and that your feet are flat on the
floor. Now close your eyes and focus on your thoughts. Let your breath
flow freely. If there is soft music playing, pay attention to it, otherwise
focus on your thoughts. If your attention wanders, return to the thoughts that
were in your mind a moment ago. Gradually try to calm your mind. Do this for
ten minutes every day.
